Visit Tromsø gives the northern lights season as September to early April, with dog sledding in autumn and winter, Sámi culture and reindeer in winter and whale watching from November to January. There are several daily flights from Oslo, about 1 hour 50 minutes, and the airport is about 5 km from the centre.
